Here we will show you how to convert the binary number 1111 to a hexadecimal number. First note that the binary number system only has two different digits (0 & 1) and the hexadecimal number system has 16 different digits (0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F).
The four steps used to convert 1111 from binary to hexadecimal are explained below.
Step 1)
Multiply the last digit in 1111 by 2⁰, multiply the second to last digit in 1111 by 2¹, multiply the third to last digit in 1111 by 2², multiply the fourth to last digit in 1111 by 2³, and so on, until all the digits are used:
1 × 2⁰ = 1
1 × 2¹ = 2
1 × 2² = 4
1 × 2³ = 8
Step 2)
Add up all the products we got from Step 1, like this:
1 + 2 + 4 + 8 = 15
Step 3)
Divide the sum from Step 2 by 16. Put the remainder aside. Then divide the whole part by 16 again, and put the remainder aside again. Keep doing this until the whole part is 0. Also, replace remainders if need be: 10=A, 11=B, 12=C, 13=D, 14=E, and 15=F.
15 ÷ 16 = 0 with F remainder
Step 4)
Take the remainders from Step 3 and put them together in reverse order to get the answer to 1111 binary to hexadecimal:
1111 binary = F hexadecimal
